Modelling the Future of
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

BES-SIM

The Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Scenario-based Inter-Model comparision (BES-SIM) is a global initiative committed to advancing our understanding of how human activities and climate change impact nature and the invaluable benefits it provides to people. By bringing together a global network of scientists, policy experts, and modelling communities, BES-SIM plays a pivotal role in guiding policies to halt biodiversity loss on land and sea and fostering sustainable futures for people and nature.

We address how biodiversity and ecosystem services are impacted by land use, climate change, and socio-economic pathways, while exploring uncertainties, feedback mechanisms, and pathways to achieve positive futures through policy-relevant, multi-scale scenario modeling. Our primary goal is to inform biodiversity assessments conducted by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
